Violinist Julie Leven is the Founder and Artistic/Executive Director Emeritus of Shelter Music Boston. Since 2010, this social service organization has presented over 1000 chamber music concerts of the highest artistic standards in Greater Boston homeless shelters and substance misuse recovery centers. She performs regularly with the Handel + Haydn Society Orchestra and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and has appeared at major venues and music festivals worldwide—including the BBC Proms-London, Casals Festival-Puerto Rico, Edinburgh Festival, Finlandia Hall-Helsinki, Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt Austria, Krakow/Warsaw Beethoven Festival, Theatre Champs Elysees-Paris, Suntory Hall-Tokyo, Spoleto Festival, Tanglewood, —and more. She is a former member of the Jerusalem Symphony and in Denmark, the Aarhus Symfoniorkester. Julie can be heard as a soloist on the Boston Baroque recordings of Handel Opus 6 Concerti Grossi and the Grammy nominated Monteverdi Vespers.
