Gene Stenger

Deemed an “impressive tenor” (The New York Times), Gene Stenger is a Bach specialist who is also heralded for his “crisp, clear tenor in action” (Washington Post) of his performances of oratorios by Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, and Mozart. Mr. Stenger’s 2026-27 season features solo engagements with the Toledo Symphony (Handel’s Messiah), Helena Symphony (Handel’s Messiah), Smithsonian Chamber Music Society (Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde), Colorado Bach Ensemble (Handel’s Messiah), Bach Society of St. Louis (Bach’s St. Matthew Passion), Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra (Handel’s Messiah), Bach in the City (Bach’s Christmas Oratorio), Upper Valley Baroque (Bach’s St. Matthew Passion), and Viva Bach Peterborough (Bach’s St. John Passion). Equally at home in opera, Gene will make his debut with INseries Opera (Septimius in Handel’s Theodora), and return to Winter Opera St. Louis (Belmonte in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Originally from Pittsburgh, Gene holds degrees from Yale University’s School of Music, and Institute of Sacred Music, Colorado State University, and Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music.
